Our History and Mission

Burgess Building Company was founded in 1995 by Philip Burgess, who had already been serving the construction community for over 25 years. Phil Burgess founded the company to continue to service a specific niche that was and still is needed in Oklahoma. Current owner, Matt Wright, joined as partner in April 2005 and now serves as President/CEO of the company. Since Matt's arrival, Burgess Company has established an office in Tulsa to more effectively service the needs of the Eastern Oklahoma market. Burgess Company continues to actively pursue Phil's vision and mission to provide unparalleled products and services to our customers. Burgess Company strives to be a "Golden Rule" company by treating our customers, vendors, employees and community in the same manner in which we would like to be treated. We will exemplify this culture by providing unsurpassed services of professionalism, integrity, honesty and quality in all of our dealings. Because of our commitment to being a Golden Rule company, we believe it is important to give back to support others, both locally and globally. Burgess Company actively supports the following organizations: Conservation Coalition of Oklahoma, The Nature Conservancy of Oklahoma, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, and Scouts BSA.

President/Owner - Matt Wright

Matt has more than 20 years experience in the commercial construction industry, including manufacturing, distribution and subcontracting. After graduating from Pansy Kidd Middle School and Poteau High School, he moved on to Oklahoma State University, where he crammed 4 years of college studies into 5 1/2 years. Following college, Matt focused his career on selling underground utilities until he realized that working above ground is more fun. Prior to joining Burgess Company in 2005, he spent 4 years as the National Sales Manager for a manufacturer of architectural construction products. Matt is able to pull from his experience in daily activities to enhance customer satisfaction - product consultation, contract negotiation, fly fishing, team leadership, turkey hunting tactics, and market planning. He is the past president of the AGC of Oklahoma Building Chapter and the current chairman of the AGC Education Foundation.

Chief Operating Officer - Marcus Kindrix

Marcus joined the Executive Team for Burgess Company in September of 2014. Marcus brings with him a diverse background in which he worked for a trucking company, a manufacturer and a distributor, although his first three job choices were NFL punter, superhero and country music star. Once he realized these first three career choices weren't promising options, he settled into the world of construction quite nicely. He credits his success in the operational world to the 2 excellent mentors he had along the way. Marcus does not believe that practice makes perfect, he believes that perfect practice makes perfect.

Marketing - Erika Wright

Upon graduation from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Elementary Education, Erika quickly discovered that the education field wasn't for her and began her career in sales right out of the gate. Starting in retail management, she spent 5 years with Bath & Body Works, moving into outside sales in credit card processing and ATM machines. After gaining a few years of outside sales experience, she pursued a career in the fast-paced world of pharmaceutical sales, where she achieved top sales awards and rankings over the course of almost 20 years. In 2016, she decided to jump out on her own into the world of architectural sales and consulting, investing her successful experience in corporate sales into the family business instead. When she isn't consulting with architects and working with manufacturers, she spends her spare time advocating for Oklahoma’s public schools via the Oklahoma Rural Schools Coalition, is President of the NPS Foundation for Academic Excellence, and is den leader of 15 spirited Cub Scouts. She is a lover of life and subscriber to action, and is just trying her best to do good stuff in the world.

Product Specialist - Jace Kennedy

Jace has a broad range of business and life experience. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, he managed an inflatable game company in Broken Arrow for 2 years, where he handled day-to-day operations, sales, scheduling and customer service. He took that experience into the elevator industry, as a Service Sales Account Representative for KONE Elevators. Jace's main responsibilities were managing the existing service accounts, selling upgrades and repairs, and adding to the client list for NE Oklahoma and NW Arkansas. At the urging of friends, he parted ways with the elevator world and entered the ESL (English as a Second Language) world. Jace moved to Daegu, South Korea to teach english to students ranging from children to adults. He learned more than he taught - new culture, new language, patience, understanding and adaptability. Teaching was a 2 year adventure that also allowed for backpacking trips through Europe and SE Asia. In 2009, after 5 1/2 months of vagrancy in SE Asia, Jace returned to Broken Arrow. Searching for a summer job to fill his time before returning to South Korea, he joined Burgess Company as a laborer. Jace's initial role at Burgess consisted of hanging from strut grid systems changing out bolts.

Office Dog - “Ki” Kanzikaw’s Kootenai River Kiamichi

Don’t be fooled by his long fancy name, our Burgess mascot and resident office dog is a real down to earth guy. Ki joined the Burgess team quickly after his birth in 2015 and is in charge of tail wagging, general companionship, and making sure that the office staff stays in line by allowing them to give him belly rubs when he they are stressed or cranky. A recent graduate of the prestigious No Limits Kennels bird dog university program, he has officially earned his masters at being the best wire-haired pointing griffon in the state of Oklahoma, maybe the world. Although he is a hunting champion, he is also the most kind, gentle, and loving dog you will ever meet and is especially prized for his ability to soar above other dogs in his excellence at being lovable. He never pees on the carpet, but he does like to dig to China on occasion. He has future plans for entrepreneurship as a sought out breeding stud. Ki has recently been selected as the Face of Eukanuba and is proud to be a supermodel delegate for all wire-haired pointing griffons.
